New Approved Allowance ₦33,000 — Says NYSC DG Ibrahim Shuaibu

The director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has finally cleared the air on the monthly allowance of corps members.

Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim just cleared the public about the new approved National minimum wage by the Federal Government. He explained that contrary to the various amounts circulated on social media, the new rate of allowance (allawee) is ₦33,000.

This was disclosed at the NYSC Secretariat in Bauchi State while speaking to corps members during his visit.

Released on the Scheme’s official page on Facebook, Brigadier Ibrahim said that provisions have been made for the new allowance in the 2020 budget. He also stated that payment would soon commence once funds have been released by the appropriate authorities.

He further advised corps members to be security-driven and warned them against unauthorized journeys; And if authorized, he advised them not to travel at night due to unforeseen dangers.

Meanwhile, President Buhari in April 2019 signed the new minimum wage bill into law. On October 24, 2019, Mr. Sunday Dare said that members of the National Youth Service Corps would also partake in the new minimum wage of ₦30,000.

It appears almost everyone is waiting for this month’s allowance to come in.

However, there are still those claiming to have received the supposed ‘allawee’ whereas, the stated amount being ₦33,000  isn’t what we see.
