Nigerian singer Iyanya recently charged with car theft by the Nigerian police.

According to reports, Iyanya was brought to trial before the High Court in Lagos on February 4.

The singer who pleaded not guilty is said to have committed the offense in September 2018. It appears these are trying times for Iyanya, after the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Ikoyi, charged him with car theft.

It was revealed by multiple sources that the police had filed the charges against the singer back in 2019.

However, the singer didn’t show up in court. The court adjourned six times due to his absence despite being charged.

He eventually appeared before Justice Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile of an Igbosere High Court, Lagos, on February 4. Prosecution counsel, Chukwu Agwu who is a Superintendent of Police, alleged that Iyanya committed the offense in September 2018.

The court heard that the defendant allegedly dishonestly converted to his use or of another person, a Black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) marked MAVINIY, with Chassis and Engine numbers JTEBX7FJ7EK165480 and 2TR1385954.

Agwu told the court that the vehicle belongs to ‘The Temple Management Company Ltd, represented by a lawyer, Ayodeji Olomojobi.

Iyanya however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
