Ganduje signs bill to split Kano’s Emirate council

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has taken into action to give assent to the bill passed by the Kano house of assembly which breaks up the emirate in the state.

The Kano State House of Assembly has removed 36 local government areas from the Kano Emirate to create four new Emirates. Kano State has the highest number of LGAs in Nigeria, with 44.

With this new reform, Kano now has five emirates which include Kano, Rano, Gaya, Karaye, and Bichi reducing the domain of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, The Emir of Kano.

In a motion presented by the Majority Leader Baffa Babba, the House unanimously agreed that creation of more Emirates will assist in job creation, dispute, and community conflict resolutions among others.

Many observe that the malicious intent is to whittle down the influence of the Emir of Kano, Mr. Sanusi, for reportedly opposing the re-election of Mr Ganduje.
