Coronavirus cases rises to 6,401 as Nigeria records 226 new cases


The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announces 226 new cases of coronavirus in the country.

On Tuesday, May 19, the total number of coronavirus cases rises to 6,401 in 15 states including Abuja. Lagos state records the highest number with 131 cases, 25 cases in Ogun, 15 cases in Plateau, and 11 cases in Edo.

Kaduna records seven cases, six cases in Oyo, and five cases each in Abuja and Adamawa. Jigawa, Ebonyi, and Borno records four cases each while Nasarawa records three cases.

Gombe records two cases and rounding up with cases for today is Enugu and Bayelsa with one new case each.

NCDC used this opportunity to announce one new death raising the number of deaths to 192. Since the inception of its first case in February, 1,734 patients have been discharged.

Also NCDC provided a detailed breakdown of cases in various states. Lagos state still remains the major center with a total of 2,550 cases.
