Coronavirus cases rises to 5,959 as Nigeria records 338 new cases


The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announces 338 new cases of coronavirus in the country.

On Sunday, May 17, the total number of coronavirus cases rises to 5,959 in 17 states including Abuja. Lagos state records the highest number with 117 cases, 64 cases in Kano, 21 cases in Abuja and 16 cases in Rivers.

Plateau records 14 cases, 11 cases in Oyo, nine cases in Kastina and four cases each in Jigawa and Kaduna. Abia, Bauchi and Borno records three cases each while Gombe, Akwa-Ibom and Delta records two cases each.

Ondo, Kebbi and Sokoto all have one new case each.

NCDC used this opportunity to announce six new deaths raising the number of deaths to 182. Since the inception of its first case in February, 1,594 patients have been discharged.

The NCDC also provided a detailed breakdown of cases in various states. Lagos state still remains the major centre with a total of 2,550 cases.
