Coronavirus cases rise to 28,711 as Nigeria records 544 new cases


The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announces 544 new cases of coronavirus in the country.

On Sunday, July 5th, 2020, the total number of coronavirus cases rises to 28,711 in 18 states including Abuja. Lagos state records the highest number with 199 confirmed cases.

Ebonyi state is following closely with 65 cases, 47 cases in Oyo, 46 cases in Ondo, 31 cases in Ogun, and 30 cases in Edo state.

NCDC records 28 cases in Abuja, 25 in Kastina, 15 in Plateau, and 11 cases in Bayelsa. Kaduna and Adamawa record 10 new confirmed cases, eight cases in Akwa-Ibom, seven cases in Gombe, and four new cases in Kano.

Taraba state records three cases of the virus, Rivers and Abia has four cases each while Ekiti records ONE case.

The death numbers have gotten to 645 as of July 5th, 2020. Since the inception of its first case in February, 11,665 patients have been discharged. As of July 04, 2020, a total of 151,121 samples have been tested in Nigeria.

Lagos state still remains the major center of the pandemic having a total of 11,244 confirmed cases with a total of 1,676 recovery cases as of July 5th.

FCT has the second lead with 2,181 cases while Oyo state has 1,513 confirmed cases, taking the third lead.


Edo state takes fourth place with 1,383 cases while Kano state is following closely with 1,268 confirmed cases.
