Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19).
Confirming the statement was the Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mukhtar Gidado on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
This follows a day after the governor went into self-isolation with some of his aides and took the test. According to reports, the Governor had contact with the son of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who has also tested positive for coronavirus.
Atiku’s son and Governor Mohammed met in a flight going to Lagos, exchanged pleasantries and in the process shook hands. He has since gone into self-isolation to prevent any possible spread of the virus.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) carried out the test to which Gidado revealed on Tuesday.
The statement reads;
“Of the six initial tests carried out, one sample was confirmed positive of COVID-19. The positive result happened to be that of his Excellency Sen.Bala Mohammed.”
He also said, “At this point, it should be noted that the governor is in self-isolation as his doctors and officials from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control have taken full charge of his quarantine.”
Gidado further said the Governor has advised anyone who earlier came in contact with him to go for an immediate test to avoid further spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.
