Buhari nominates Godwin Emefiele for second term as CBN governor

President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for a second term.

In the nomination letter sent to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki in line with the CBN Act on Wednesday, May 8th stated the President’s intention to nominate Emefiele to run for a second term which was read during plenary on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

The 57-year-old who was first appointed by the former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in 2014 will become the first governor to be reappointed for a second term since Nigeria returned to a democratic system in 1999.

If confirmed by the Senate, Emefiele second five-year term will end in 2024.
