However, many Nigerian music lovers were disappointed Nigeria’s superstar, Burna Boy, lost to Angelique.

The African legend, however, went on to dedicate her award to Burna Boy and showered him with praises.

In her words;

“The new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm, and the time has come, during her acceptance speech. The new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm, and the time has come.

Referencing Burna Boy, she said;

This is for Burna Boy, [he] is among those young artists [who] came from Africa [who] are changing the way our continent is perceived, and the way African music has been the bed rock for every [type] of music.”

Despite being unlucky, Burna Boy’s nomination is a major milestone for contemporary African music.
